HAMPTON COURT PALACE
To celebrate 500 years of gardening at Hampton Court Palace, Collaborate were commissioned to create a series of interpretive points and a mobile exhibition for use around the gardens. We developed a sympathetic palette of materials which fits within such a historical and context.
A set of wrought iron frameworks to hold tiled panels developed with a blacksmith. These were made in traditional way to match the Jean Tijou screens and railings that are visible around the vast gardens.
We also created a series of 30 deckchairs for visitors to use and polo shirts for the gardening staff depicting significant characters in the history of the gardens. These range from Kings and Queens to pot cleaners and even Queen Elizabeth I’s mole catcher!
The gardens staff have embraced the concept and can often be overheard describing in detail the particular character that they are wearing.
